Jonathan A. Stein is Senior Counsel at Valley & Summit Law, based in Irvine, California, where he focuses on high-stakes business litigation, intellectual-property disputes, securities matters, and commercial torts. A veteran of more than 200 trial days in state and federal courts, he routinely handles seven-figure controversies from complaint through verdict or settlement.

He holds an A.B. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard College (1979) and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1983), where he served as an editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review; he also completed four semesters of accounting and finance at the Wharton School. Admitted to the California Bar in 1986 and the New York Bar in 1984, he is conversant in Spanish.

Before joining Valley & Summit, Mr. Stein was counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius (New York) on multibillion-dollar leveraged-lease transactions, at Hughes Hubbard & Reed (Los Angeles) on Hallmark Cards copyright litigation and the dismissal of a $180 million securities-fraud action against ARCO, and at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison representing Bank of America in nine-figure agricultural-loan portfolios. From 1992 to 2021 he owned the Law Offices of Jonathan Stein, acting as lead trial counsel in IP and trade-secret cases that yielded multiple seven-figure settlements for insurers, software developers, and entertainment clients. Recent engagements include 18 months of federal anti-counterfeiting litigation for a global consumer-products brand (culminating in a $51 million seizure and permanent injunctions), 2023 “lemon-law” trials at Knight Law Group, and 2023 securities-fraud drafting for a Dubai family office at Feinstein Law, P.C.
